10 Morning Routines to Start a Stress-Free Day
1. Plan the Night Before
First up, planning your day ahead on the night before is a great way to prime yourself for success. If you wake up feeling stressed about all the things you need to do (or even have to do, like go to work), then you should write it all out before bed. Scheduling your work, lunch break, exercise, and other activities helps free your mind and makes you feel less overwhelmed.
2. Go to Bed Early
Another part of my morning routine that starts the night before is my bedtime. It’s a routine I strive to maintain every single day. Going to bed early helps me wake up early and accomplish a lot with minimal stress.
3. Start Your Day Without Your Phone
Tempting as it is to check your phone when you first get up to look on social media or scroll through emails, make it a habit to ignore your phone first thing. Believe it or not, looking at your phone first thing overstimulates and overstresses you, and you need to ease your mind into the day ahead instead.
4. Write in Your Journal
Grab a pen and notebook instead and write in your journal. Don’t have a journal? Start one now, and you’ll be glad you did. You can write about your thoughts and feelings or whatever you’re grateful for. Even if it’s just a sentence or two, make it a habit.
5. Have Water and Stretch
Right off the bat, give your body what it needs – a nice glass of water. This helps start the hydration process and wakes your body up naturally. Since Americans collectively do not drink enough of this stuff, change the narrative by replenishing your cells. Then, do some simple stretches to prime your body for the day. You’ll notice that if you run this habit on repeat, you’ll start feeling fantastic!

6. Make Your Bed
You might not have time to fully clean before going to work, but take the time to make your bed. It makes the room look pulled together, and you’ll appreciate it later when it’s time for sleep. Plus, if you have one of those days (you know the kind), then at least you will have made your bed, and that’s worth something.
7. Open the Windows
Along with making my bed, I love opening the windows when the weather is nice. Letting fresh air in changes my mood for the better and really is a beautiful start to the day. Even when the weather isn’t ideal, I’ll at least open up the curtains to let daylight infuse my interior.
8. Practice Gratitude
Focusing on Gratitude makes you exude positive energy, which, in turn, attracts the same kind of energy. Setting intentions is powerful, and being grateful is the first step to invoking that positivity.
9. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Breakfast is something that is very near and dear to me because it is the way to power up your mind and body. Ensure it contains protein and fiber, and it will sustain your energy until your lunch break. Even on the run, there are things you can eat that will help give you the best start to your day. Some of my favorite breakfasts include this sweet potato casserole. Also, baked oats, freezer-friendly breakfast burritos, and baked egg cups; see video for these recipes.
10. Visualize a Good Day
Make it a great day by seeing it happen. If you want to have coffee with it, go right on ahead. Let go of your stresses and picture successes instead.

Tips For Maintaining Morning Routines and Overcoming Challenges:
Perhaps your problem isn’t wanting to follow a morning routine but rather trying to keep up with it. If you encounter this issue, try making one of these changes at a time, then gradually adding more to the mix. It’s perfectly fine to give yourself the time and grace needed to make those positive changes stick.
Frequently Asked Questions About Morning Routines:

The 5-5-5-30 morning routines is just a quick workout that can help you sneak exercise into your day right from the start.
