Are Sweet Potatoes Healthier Than Regular Potatoes?
Sweet potatoes are certainly a healthy choice, though white potatoes are nutritious too. The thing about sweet potatoes is that they have a high content of vitamin A. And they taste so sweet; they’ll make you eat your veggies.
Do You Have to Soak Sweet Potatoes in Cold Water Before Air Frying?
Unlike white potatoes, you don’t need to soak your sweet potatoes in cold water before putting them in the air fryer. That’s because they’re less starchy, so they have no problem getting crispy without a soaking step.

How to Roast Sweet Potato Cubes in the Air Fryer (Step-by-Step):
These sweet potato cubes are going to be a new side in your weekly meal rotations. I can’t wait for you to try them!
- Prep the potatoes
You’ll start by washing and peeling your sweet potatoes. Then you’ll cut them into cubes. Try to keep the cubes at about the same size because you want them to cook evenly.
- Season cubes sweet potatoes
Once your potatoes are prepped, put them in a big bowl with the other ingredients. You can then stir it together with a spatula or get into it with your hands which is a bit messier.
- Get the air fryer ready
Preheating is always the best idea for your air fryer. It ensures the most even cooking. For this recipe, you’ll want it set to 350F, and the time is 15 minutes. The air fryer will make a beeping sound after it’s preheated.
- Start air frying sweet potatoes
Once the air fryer is preheated, put parchment paper at the bottom and add your seasoned potatoes. Spread out the potatoes for even cooking. Make sure you flip them halfway through the cooking time! Spray avocado oil spray if needed.
- Serve and enjoy!
And when they’re ready, garnish and serve them. They go great with just about any main dish you can think of!
Best Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tips and Notes
- Don’t skip the preheat. Just like with an oven, you want to preheat your air fryer.
- Use parchment paper. Yes, it can go in an air fryer, and it really makes a difference for cleanup too. Though you can make these sweet potato cubes without the parchment paper, I like the texture/outcome when I do use parchment. So, I highly recommend it.
- Want them crisper? Add more time to crisp as you desire. Usually, after air frying for 15 minutes, and if I want the cubed potatoes to crisp up more, then I will remove the parchment, and air fry them for another 2 – 5 minutes.
- Size matters. When it comes to the potato cubes, keeping them at roughly the same size will prevent you from having any pieces that aren’t fully cooked.
- Please do not overcrowd the potatoes because they could become soggy. You want crisp edges and tender inside.
- I suggest cooking in batches if you have a small air fryer.
- If the potatoes are not crisping up as you want them to, then feel free to increase the temperature to 375F. You could air fry them for up to 20 minutes to crisp up to your preference. However, keep your eyes on them; I air-fried these for 17 minutes exactly. On the other hand, when I make a small quantity, they cook for 12 minutes or less.
- Sweet potatoes like oil; ensure to spray avocado oil spray in between cooking.
- Want more? Double the recipe. But remember, you’ll have to cook them in batches. Putting too many in at once will keep them from cooking evenly.
- After combining the potatoes and the seasonings, taste and adjust flavors if necessary before air frying.
- Add seasoning to your preference; add more or less depending on how you like your baked potatoes.

How to Store Leftovers
Should you find yourself with any leftovers, you can keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. They’re better the sooner you get to them, though. You can pop them in the air fryer to reheat them for the best texture.

Substitutions:
- Olive oil is heart-healthy, but feel free to use any other oil you have on hand. You can also use butter.
- Try swapping the paprika for smoked paprika and adding a little cumin for another flavor spectrum.
- Experiment with different seasonings. You can use brown sugar and maple for a sweeter side or give it a huge spicy kick with cayenne and chili powder.
- Don’t want to cut it into cubes? Cut them as fries instead. And follow the same method to finish cooking.
- Swap Knorr bouillon with Cajun or Creole seasoning.
- Use regular potatoes instead.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato FAQs
Absolutely! I’ve taken them off here, but if you’d like to keep them on, you definitely can. Make sure you wash and scrub those skins well though. And then pat them until they’re completely dry. Any trace of water will make the sweet potatoes steam, and then they won’t get crispy on the outside.
Yes, you can do that too. You’ll want to cook them for about 5 minutes in the air fryer first. Then take them out, season them, and return them to cook for 10 to 15 minutes until they’re done.
That’s simple…either peel the sweet potato or leave the skin on. Cut the ends off, then slice the sides of the potato to make it square. Next, you’ll make half-inch slices through the potato. Turn the sticks you make with the potatoes in the other way and cut in half-inch slices in the other direction. You’ll now have cubes you can use!
Why, yes, yes, you can! And if you haven’t tried it in the air fryer, you are going to kick yourself for waiting so long. It is one of the best ways to make sweet potatoes.
Just follow my recipe! You’ll cube the potatoes, season them while the air fryer preheats, then cook them in the air fryer.
