Easy Homemade Thin Crust Pizza You Will Love!

If you are ready to enjoy a wholesome pizza without a hefty calorie price and yet with all the flavors and ingredients, then my thin-crust pizza recipe is what you need. I use my healthy homemade pizza sauce recipe with roasted tomatoes and peppers.
What is a Thin Crust Pizza?
Thin-crust pizza simply means pizzas with slim or skinny dough; it refers to most pizzas baked with a thin or flattened dough! Thin-crust pizza requires smaller dough than regular thick/deep dish pizza. Research shows that more and more people, particularly the younger generations here in the United States, request this kind of pizza. A majority refer to thin-crust pizzas as Bar pizza or tavern-style pizza. Personally, I love thin-crust pizzas because it is a fantastic way to make a healthy pizza.
Is Thin Crust Healthier than Regular Pizza?
Oh Yes! Thin crust pizza is healthier than deep dish/thick crust pizzas. This is a no-brainer. The thinner a pizza crust, the fewer ingredients, calories, and carbohydrates it has. Remember, you only need a small amount of dough to flatten it to make a thin-crust pizza. For instance, this homemade thin crust pizza uses flattened dough from only one cup of flour, cutting carbohydrates into more than half! See how I made this dough here.
What is the Point of Thin Crust Pizza?
The main point of a thin crust pizza is to allow people like us to enjoy pizza without the hefty calorie price. It contains less dough, fewer calories, and obviously less carb! When you make/enjoy this homemade thin crust pizza, you will not lose a breath or sleep about it! In fact, for our Friday Pizza Night, I always make thin crust pizzas. The kids love it, and my husband loves it as well. And most of my health-conscious friends love it, too!

How to Make Thin Crust Pizza in the Oven at Home without a Pizza Stone (Step-by-Step)
Don’t place another pizza delivery order! Make your own from fresh ingredients to have that pizzeria taste at home. It’s fresh, delicious, and one of the easiest things you’ll ever make. This recipe is so near and dear to my heart and I want to share it with you. Once you make one pizza, you’ll be hooked!
- Make the Dough
Use my easy pizza dough recipe (get it here) to make a thin crust. Assuming you are using a frozen dough, ensure it is at room temperature before using to make your pizza.
- Preheat
Preheat the oven to 525F (or the highest it can go).
- Roll Out Your Pizza Dough
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin. You should sprinkle flour on the working area first to keep it from sticking. Then flatten it well to make a thin crust. Use your hands to gently stretch out the dough as you roll it out. I prefer to roll my dough out into a circular shape, but you can also form it into a square or rectangle.
- Transfer the Rolled Out Pizza to the Pan!
Transfer your dough to a pizza into a pizza pan before topping. This way, you are not struggling to transfer a loaded pizza with toppings.
- Top
To top the pizza, first, sprinkle/spread the dough with olive oil. Then, spread the pizza sauce. Use a wooden spoon to ensure it gets everywhere, stopping about 1/2 inch to the end. Be gentle not to scatter the dough. Then add the mozzarella slices, shredded mozzarella, Pepperoni, and other toppings you want. I baked two trays of pizzas on this day and didn’t use mozzarella slices on the second tray.
- Bake and Serve
Place the pizza in the middle rack of your oven to bake. Bake pizza for 8 – 10 minutes or until fully baked. The time will depend on how hot your oven is. I baked mine at 525 and it was ready at 8 minutes. If the pizza toppings are browning too quickly and the bottom is still uncooked, cover with foil to allow the entire pizza to cook thoroughly. When your pizza is fully cooked through, take it out and let it cool on a wooden cutting board for a minute or two before slicing. Pizza is better enjoyed hot/warm. Enjoy!😉
Tips for Making Thin Crust Pizzas At Home
- I highly recommend par-baking the pizza crust if using a thick crust. I usually don’t, as I prefer thin crusts.
- The ingredients listed make one pizza ball from my homemade pizza dough recipe. About 12-inch pizza from one cup of flour. See how I make my quick pizza dough for homemade thin crust pizza!
- Play with different sizes of pepperonis; I use both small and large. I made two trays of pizzas with the entire dough from my recipe.
- Use the toppings you want!
- Use a wooden spoon to spread your pizza sauce onto the dough, leaving about ½-inch of plain crust at the edges.
- Be gentle when smearing on the sauce so as not to tear the dough.
- Move your fully baked pizza onto a cutting board before you slice it. Possibly line the cutting board with foil for quick clean up!

Homemade Pizza Recipe FAQs
A pizza stone is one of the best things to use for making pizza at home. It creates a hotter environment in your oven which is why pizza from the pizzeria tastes so good. With a pizza stone, you can get that same taste at home.
No, you don’t need to run out and buy a pizza stone, but once you master making pizza at home, you just may find yourself buying one. If you don’t have one, use a dark-colored baking sheet or pan.
The key to getting pizza cooked all the way through is setting your oven to the highest temperature. If you did that and it’s still raw on the bottom, you need to cook it longer. Don’t skip the preheat step to ensure your oven gets hot enough. Also, if you’re using a thicker crust, par-bake it first for a couple minutes to avoid this problem.
A healthier version of pizza is the most pizzas with vegetable crusts, such as the cauliflower pizza made with cauliflower pizza crust. Cauliflower is naturally low-carb, contains a lot of high fiber, and is nutrient-packed. Obviously, any pizzas made with cauliflower crust will be nutritionally rewarding. Thin crust pizzas and flatbread pizzas are slimmer/thinner and lighter options to regular traditional pizzas. This type of pizza reduces both the calories and carbohydrates.
What is Thin Crust Pizza Dough made of?
Think crust pizza is made of all-purpose flour, yeast, honey (instead of sugar), olive oil, salt, and lukewarm water. These are the same ingredients that regular thick-crust pizzas are made up of. However, you only need to flatten a small amount of dough when making your thin crust pizza. Here, see my dough recipe!
What is Best Sauce for Homemade Thin Crust Pizzas?
A smoky + fiery + tasty homemade pizza sauce made with (fresh) roasted ingredients will instantly transform your pizza from garbage to gourmet quality! My homemade pizza will not be the same without this!
