An easy recipe of homemade thin crust pizza is quick to make, healthier, has fewer calories, and is perfect for family pizza night! Thin crust pizza is also called slim/skinny pizza! If you are ready to enjoy a wholesome pizza without a hefty calorie price and yet with all the flavors and ingredients, a thin-crust pizza recipe is what you need. Homemade thin crust pizza recipe has an excellent carbohydrate-protein-fat ratio, unlike thick crust/deep dish pizzas. Pizzas have bad wraps, but not this thin crust pizza! Unlike those bulky, thick pizza slices, the thin/skinny crust pizza is light, flaky, and enjoyable.
Ingredients
- 1 (12″) medium-sized Pan Pizza dough (typically pizza dough from 1 cup of flour: see this quick pizza dough recipe; and use one dough ball.
- 1/2 cup of Homemade Pizza Sauce (use less or more as needed)
- 2 teaspoons – 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 4 ounces of sliced Mozzarella Cheese (optional)
- 4 ounces of shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 2.5 ounces of Pepperoni; about 16 large pepperonis or 30+ small pepperonis (or as much as you want)
Instructions
- Make the dough. Use my easy pizza dough recipe and use only one dough ball (get it here) to make a thin crust. Assuming you are using a frozen dough, ensure it is at room temperature before using to make your pizza.
- Preheat. Preheat the oven to 525F (the highest it can go).
- Roll Your Pizza Dough. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin. You should sprinkle flour on the working area first to keep it from sticking. Then flatten it well to make a thin crust. Use your hands to gently stretch out the dough as you roll it out. I prefer to roll my dough out into a circular shape, but you can also form it into a square or rectangle.
- Transfer the Rolled-Out Pizza to the Pan! Transfer your dough to a pizza into a pizza pan before topping. This way, you are not struggling to transfer a loaded pizza with toppings.
- Top. To top the pizza, first, sprinkle/spread the dough with olive oil. Then, spread the pizza sauce. Use a wooden spoon to ensure it gets everywhere, stopping about 1/2 inch to the end. Be gentle not to scatter the dough. Then add the mozzarella slices, shredded mozzarella, Pepperoni, and other toppings you want. I baked two trays of pizzas on this day and didn’t use mozzarella slices on the second tray.
- Bake and Serve. Place the pizza in the middle rack of your oven to bake. Bake pizza for 8 – 10 minutes or until fully baked. The time will depend on how hot your oven is. I baked mine at 525 and it was ready at 8 minutes. If the pizza toppings are browning too quickly and the bottom is still uncooked, cover with foil to allow the entire pizza to cook thoroughly. When your pizza is fully cooked through, take it out and let it cool on a wooden cutting board for a minute or two before slicing. Pizza is better enjoyed hot/warm. Enjoy!😉
Notes
The ingredients listed make one pizza ball from my homemade pizza dough recipe. About 12-inch pizza from one cup of flour. See how I make my quick pizza dough for homemade thin crust pizza!
Play with different sizes of pepperonis; I use both small and large. I made two trays of pizzas with the entire dough from my recipe.
Use the toppings you want!
Use a wooden spoon to spread your pizza sauce onto the dough, leaving about ½-inch of plain crust at the edges.
Be gentle when smearing on the sauce so as not to tear the dough.
Move your fully baked pizza onto a cutting board before you slice it. Possibly line the cutting board with foil for quick clean up!
I highly recommend par-baking the pizza crust if using a thick crust. I usually don’t, as I prefer thin crusts. If using a pizza stone, bake your homemade thin crust pizza accordingly.
