Tips/Recipe Notes For Making This Honey Mustard Salmon in the Oven:
- When you’re mixing the seasoning/marinade, make sure you taste it and adjust as you wish, adding salt to taste.
- I like to put lemon slices/wedges into the baking dish. It adds even more flavors to this already-delish-dish!
- Keep an eye on the salmon when broiling; the broil is pretty powerful and can burn things easily.
- Note that if you will be cooking fewer salmon your baking time may slightly change.
- As you can see, I baked these fish using a “foil baking sheet.” Your outcome may change if you use a non-stick or glass baking sheet. The bottom line is to keep your eyes on salmon and adjust time and temperature if necessary.
- Squeeze a little lemon on your salmon before eating. More cooking tips on my YouTube Channel.

How to Store Honey Mustard Salmon Leftovers
This tasty salmon dish is so good, I seldom have leftovers. But if you have any, put them in an airtight container and into the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also stash it in the freezer for meal prep, though separate the portions. It should be good for up to 6 months but will taste its best when fresh.
Variations and Substitutions:
- Try it with stone-ground mustard if you don’t have Dijon.
- Swap the lemons with orange and the mustard for soy sauce to give it an Asian flair.
- A little Cajun spice might be fun to give it a hot and fiery taste.
- If you do not eat salmon, you can try making chicken the same way. Or maybe use another type of fish, such as cod or tilapia.
- Use vegan butter instead.
- If you do not eat honey, you can try maple syrup (though I have yet to try this option)

Honey Mustard Salmon FAQs:
In this recipe, the seasoning/marinade coating helps add moisture and flavor. The short cooking time prevents it from drying out too. Once you pull it from the oven, make sure you let it rest on your serving dish for a few minutes, which will also keep it from taking on a dry texture.
Absolutely! In fact, this is a restaurant-inspired dish. I’ve noticed lots of good places have honey mustard salmon on the menu, and this is my original take on it.
The best sauce for salmon is the one you personally enjoy. There are so many sauces that work beautifully with the taste of salmon, from creamy dill to hollandaise and honey mustard to teriyaki.
I love the delicious crust that forms on the exterior when I bake salmon uncovered. Covering it makes it steam more, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but my preference is uncovered.
Chef Ramsay bakes his salmon at 400F, too, though he uses a lemon-dill sauce, which is likely also delicious.

Ingredients
- 7 salmon fillets
- 5 tablespoons of butter
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 4–5 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon Knorr chicken seasoning powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 – 2 Whole Lemons (to drizzle prior to baking or after baking and garnishing)
Instructions
- Gather the ingredients. Gather all of your ingredients together. Then, grate the garlic and set aside.
- Preheat Oven. Start by turning on your oven to preheat at 400F.
- Prep Salmon. Clean the salmon, pat them dry with paper towels, and place it on a baking dish.
- Combine the Seasonings. Put all the seasoning ingredients – salt, pepper, Knorr, grated garlic, Dijon mustard, and honey, into a bowl. Melt your butter and olive oil in the microwave, then add them to this seasoning bowl. Mix everything well and set it aside.
- Season the Salmon. Use a teaspoon and scoop one teaspoonful of the honey mustard dressing onto each side of the salmon, using your clean hand to rub it on that side. Then, turn the salmon, scoop one teaspoonful on the other side, and rub it in. Ensure that all the salmon is completely coated with the marinade/seasoning. Finally, squeeze some lemon juice on the salmon before baking. Feel free to place the squeezed-out lemon wedges on the baking sheet by the salmon; this adds more flavor while baking. Alternatively, you can use fresh lemon wedges.
- Bake. Place the salmon in the oven to cook. Bake for 10 minutes, and then change the oven setting to broil. Broil for 7 to 10 more minutes or until it’s tan/blackened to your liking. What you are seeing here is just how I wanted it; the key here is to keep your eyes on these salmon! You do not want them to burn.
- Serve. Gently remove the baked salmon from the oven and place it on your serving dish or tray. Garnish with baked lemon wedges or fresh lemon slices, basil leaves, etc. Serve with your favorite sides – we love serving this with fried rice, white rice, and sauteed cabbage. So good!
