Also, this recipe requires only a few ingredients – pumpkin purée or pumpkin butter, pumpkin pie spice, almond milk or any dairy-free milk of choice, dairy-free sweetened condensed milk, strong brew coffee, and sweetener of choice.
What is Pumpkin Spice Latte?
Pumpkin spice latte, or PSL for short, is an espresso drink with steamed milk and that pumpkin pie aroma and taste. It’s warm and nutty with pops of cinnamon flavor, making it easy to see why everyone loves this cinnamony coffee drink.
How to Make a Dairy-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte Better Than Starbucks!
Love those Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes? There’s a better way to enjoy them without waiting in line or spending at least $5 a pop. In fact, once you try this recipe, you’ll make these all the time. They taste even better, and they’re completely dairy-free and healthy too. No more guilt no more wasted money, and all the PSL you can dream of…even when Starbucks stops selling them for the season!
But now you will no longer have to wait for fall, wait in line, or shell out tons of money buying the PSL because I’m going to show you how to make it better than Starbucks. I have two ways to do it, too, so you can try them and pick your favorite! Also, make it whenever you desire.
Why You Will Love This Easy Pumpkin Spice Latte:
- It tastes even better than Starbucks!
- The flavor is captivating.
- There are two ways to make it – with pumpkin puree or without.
- You only need a few ingredients to make it either way.
- You can make it anytime you’re craving a PSL.
- It’s ready faster than it would take for you to go to Starbucks and order!
- This easy PSL recipe checks all the boxes – easy, dairy-free aka, vegan, keto-friendly, and healthy!
Recommended Tools to Make This Recipe
In addition to assembling the ingredients you’ll need, I recommend you have ready a pan, whisk, mug, and strainer or sieve.
Dairy-free Pumpkin Spice Latte Ingredients
Here are the ingredients for the PSL one way:
- Almond Milk
- Strong brewed coffee
- Pumpkin Purée (Homemade or canned purée)
- Dairy-free condensed milk (I used homemade coconut condensed milk)
- Monk fruit sweetener (or any sweetener of choice)
- Pumpkin spice (or ground cinnamon & nutmeg)
- Vanilla extract
- Dairy-free whipped cream (optional; for cozy feeling)
How to Make a Dairy-free Pumpkin Spice Latte Better Than Starbucks! (Step-by-Step)
You are never going to stand in line at Starbucks again or inch along in the drive-thru. Here’s how to make my vegan pumpkin spice latte the first way!
- Brew
You’ll first brew your strong coffee. Then set it aside.
- Heat
Now you’ll take your pan and put it on the stovetop. Add the pumpkin purée along with the pumpkin pie spice and vanilla extract. Keep stirring for a few minutes to heat it up, about 3 minutes, on low-medium heat. You’ll then add the milk and stir to combine, ideally with a whisk.
- Simmer
After about 4 to 5 minutes, it should simmer. Then you’ll stir in the dairy-free sweetened condensed milk. Mix this well with a whisk, then remove it from the stove.
- Assemble
Now comes the best part! First, pour your coffee into a mug, then add the monkfruit or any other sweetener, and stir it in. Second, place the strainer atop your mug and pour the hot pumpkin spice latte through it, removing the gritty bits. Top it with whipped cream if you’d like, and enjoy it with your favorite snack!
Here’s another way to make this easy vegan pumpkin spice latte (without purée)!
ingredients you need:
- Almond Milk
- Strong brewed coffee
- Pumpkin Butter (I used homemade pumpkin butter; here’s my recipe!)
- Dairy-free regular cream or whipped cream (optional)
- Monkfruit sweetener (optional; use it as a sweetener, or you can use any other sweetener you choose)
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe Without Pumpkin Purée
And now for the second way to make this recipe. This is my favorite way, and you don’t need pumpkin puree to make it.
- Brew. It starts the same as my first recipe by brewing your strong coffee.
- Heat. In a pan on your stovetop, add the almond milk. Then add the pumpkin butter, stirring with a whisk to dissolve it.
- Stir. Keep stirring this mixture to avoid burning or sticking on the bottom of the pot. Once it starts simmering, after about 4 to 5 minutes), you can take it off the heat.
- Assemble. You’ll pour your coffee into your mug, add the sweetener, and stir. Then place a strainer on top of the mug and then pour the hot pumpkin spice latte through it. You’ll strain the pumpkin spice latte mixture from any gritty bits. Add the dairy-free regular cream to finish with dairy-free whipped cream. Enjoy any snack of choice.
Can I Make Pumpkin Spice Latte Without Coffee?
Yes, you can absolutely make this dairy-free pumpkin latte without coffee by simply excluding the coffee. Usually, I exclude coffee when I make this recipe for my kids and any non-coffee drinkers.
What Snacks Go Well with Pumpkin Spice Latte?
Whatever you love eating with your pumpkin latte is the perfect snack. I typically pair this vegan pumpkin latte with pumpkin spice muffins, pumpkin bread, banana bread, vegan oatmeal muffins, or meat pie.
Also, pumpkin spice cookies, buttery croissants, donuts, fresh fruits and cheeses, cashews, or even breakfast sandwiches are great!
Recipe Notes/Tips
- Always strain the mixture. I like using a sieve since I think that filters it the best. You want to keep the gritty bits from getting into your PSL.
- Top with whipped cream or dairy-free whipped topping for added indulgence.
- Shake a little spice on top. Pumpkin spice seasoning on top will give it that final touch of perfection.
- Do not add coffee if making this pumpkin spice latte for kids
- Sweeten to your preference.
- Feel free to use regular sweet condensed milk. But my coconut milk sweetened condensed is fire!
