My family, just like most families, love good old donuts, and in as much as I desire to make it for them, I also detest making it because of the amount of flour, refined sugar, and frying that regular donuts demands. So, I, therefore, decided to make donuts using my favorite thing in the world – BEETS!

I Love Beets.

In the first place, I run on beets. Listen, y’all, I LOVE BEETS. People close to me know that beets, aka beetroot, is my bread and butter. Simply put, it is my love language. I want beet everything – beet smoothie, beets salad with feta, baked beets, shredded beet salad, etc. In reality, my healthy beet juice may be fav because I incorporated it into my weekly wellness routine long ago.

Why You will Love These Gluten-free Donuts:

  • Gluten-free: these gluten-free donuts would make an excellent Valentine’s Day donut for your significant order. This recipe is both colorful and healthy to nourish body and soul.❤️
  • Easy to make! I have said it before, and I will say it again, these donuts are easy to make. Anyone can make them!
  • Refined-Flour free! Surprisingly (well not), these donuts taste so good, and you won’t know that we didn’t use white flour. These are equally refined sugar free without the glaze. On the other hand, you can easily substitute powdered with this healthy no-calorie sweetener.
  • These taste great without the glaze (now, that’s a wins!) YES, the glaze is optional. Listen, I do not make glaze every single time I make these donuts.
  • The addition of beets instead of red food coloring is phenomenal!

Like I mentioned earlier, this recipe does not call for yeast, and this means that a prolonged period of waiting is automatically averted. You and I know that yeast needs time, and time is everything. With loads of things going on in life, the last thing you want is waste unnecessary time begging flour to rise. 😏

Additionally, in other to make these donuts healthier, I swap regular flour with whole wheat flour and added almond flour as well. How awesome is that? 😁

Mind you, these donuts were just fine without the glaze. LOL, dusted some more powdered sugar.

Plain Vs. Glazed Donuts.

The fresh strawberry glaze took these donuts to the level. Typically when you cook, you call the shots; that is, you decide whether or not you want to glaze your beet donuts after baking or not. On the positive side, this is totally up to you, which is the beauty of homemade.

All in all, I glazed my donuts. Why not?  Remember that you will need donut pans if you desire to make these healthy baked beets donuts just like I did. Or maybe you already have donuts pans?

How to Store Cake Donuts:

As you may already know, these are otherwise known as cake donuts. In other words, donuts made without yeast and are much easier to store.
Usually, you can keep these baked beets donuts on the countertop or freezer. In either case, ensure that they are not glazed. I highly suggest not glazing the donuts you wish to store for longer.
First, allow the donuts to cool down completely. Second, place them in a Ziploc bag or clean container and keep up to 5 days on the countertop or fridge.
You can also store these baked beets donuts longer in the freezer. Simply place in a freezer-friendly container and keep up to 3 months.

Notes

Make this recipe vegan by not adding an egg, I have made this recipe without an egg, and it worked, however, I think egg makes it lighter and fluffier, which I love LOVE!
