What Is the Origin of Peach Iced Tea?
In the south, iced tea is more common than water on the table with a meal. And it’s always sweetened. The oldest recipe that is written and recorded for sweetened iced tea dates back to 1879. It’s been a long-standing tradition. As for the addition of peaches, it’s not confirmed how that came about but because this stone fruit is so popular in the south, it’s easy to see how it made its way into this iconic beverage.

HERE’S HOW I MADE THIS RECIPE
Ingredients for Healthy Fresh Peach Iced Tea
Fresh Ripe Peaches.
Listen, y’all, nothing prepared me for the taste and flavors of fresh ripe peaches! OMG, my entire house smelled so good when the fresh peaches started to simmer. I have never tried making this recipe with canned peaches. I generally make it during spring/summer when fresh peaches are abundant. On the other hand, peaches are heart-healthy, great for the skin, and can healthily boost immunity!
Monk Fruit Sweetener.
I like making fresh peach iced tea with monk fruit sweetener instead of sugar because it is clearly healthier and doesn’t have all the adverse effects of sugar. Not only is sugar packed with excessive calories it is also anti-nutrient and not good for us. I wanted my family to enjoy this iced tea without restrictions, so I chose this healthy option.
Black Tea.
I used the Lipton brand; you can use any tea of your choice. I prefer the good old black tea bags, the same I used for my iced sweet tea recipe. You can use decaffeinated tea, green or herbal tea. However, I don’t know if you will have the same result.
Water.
The main ingredient in peach iced tea is water. You will need water to steep the tea and make the peach syrup. Ensure to use clean water.
Fresh mint leaves for garnishing (optional).
Mint is optional. Aside from garnishing your fresh peach iced tea, fresh mint adds flavor to your drink.
How to Make Healthy Fresh Peach Iced Tea at Home (Step-by-Step)
Here’s how to make this refreshing peach iced tea that’s perfect for summer, especially for gatherings!
- Make the Tea
The first step is to make your tea by boiling 3 cups of water and putting 2 tea bags into the hot water. Steep, then remove the bags. Let the tea cool.
- Make Peach Syrup
While the tea cools, you can keep busy by washing and cutting your fresh peaches into tiny chunks. Put them in a saucepan with the monk fruit sweetener and a cup of water. Let this boil, then drop it to a simmer on low for 10 to 15 minutes. The peaches will break down and you can then use a potato masher to break them up just a bit more. What you want to do here is extract as much liquid from the peaches as possible – don’t make it into a paste!
- Strain the Peach Syrup
Now you’ll get that peach syrup out by putting a sieve or colander over a bowl. Pour the cooked peach syrup in there to drain to get that clear syrup out, then put in a plastic container to cool.
- Mix Up Your Tea
The best part is to mix the tea and the peach syrup to make the best, tastiest fresh peach iced tea! Pour the tea into a pitcher and add the syrup, stirring well to combine. You can add an additional cup of water if needed (I usually don’t). Cover the pitcher and place in the refrigerator to cool before serving.
- Serve
To serve, place a slice of fresh peach in the bottom of your glass, fill it with ice, and then fill it with cooled peach tea. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if you want, and enjoy!
How to Store Leftover Fresh Peach Iced Tea
As thirsty as we can get, especially in summer, we often have leftovers of fresh peach iced tea. Also, I tend to make extra just for this reason. You can store it in a sealed pitcher or airtight container in your fridge but be sure to use it up within a week. You can also freeze it. The best way is by putting it into ice cube trays. Once the tea freezes, you can pop the cubes into a freezer bag for easier storage, but use it within 6 months.
Recipe Notes/Tips
- Use ripe peaches for tastier tea. It won’t be the same with frozen or canned.
- Be mindful not to overboil the syrup.
- Taste it before chilling and feel free to sweeten it up to your taste.
- And of course, be patient and let this cool first before serving. It’s worth the wait!
