Do you like steaks? Well, if your answer is yes, then you are in for a treat! In today’s blog post, am excited to show you how I make the most flavorful steak in the air fryer. This is how to air fry a perfect NY strip steak. An easy recipe for NY strip steak in air fryer is juicy, moist, tender, tasty, and packed with flavors from the garlic herb butter. The best part is that this Air fryer New York strip steak cooks in 15 minutes or less, and clean-up is easy (as with all air fryer recipes). Isn’t it the beauty of using the air fryer?
I love using my air fryer. It is undoubtedly my most hard-working kitchen appliance! From air fryer salmon to air fryer baked pear, I love how the air fryer is making my life easier. True story; for such a long time, I wondered if I could air fry steak. And whether the air fryer steak is dry? Or how to air fry a NY strip steak? Eventually, I took my boldest step and finally air-fried my steak, and the result was astronomical! Since then, air frying steak has become my favorite way to cook a steak!
Why Air Fry Steak?
Listen, if you have an air fryer and you have not yet air fried steak, pork chop, or fish, then you are missing. Uniquely, the air fryer cooks steak phenomenally well. You will have juicy, tasty meat and no messes! I still remember the struggles of making steak on the stovetop (a lot of oil and the splashes; yikes). Gladly, making NY strip steak in an air fryer (or any steak) eliminates these struggles.
Basically, you will need a good steak, a little oil, seasoning, and the air fryer! It cooks quicker with the air circulating, and there are no splashes. If you are always on the go (like yours truly), busy, and booked, then the air fryer is necessary. You can meal prep all your food for the week, be it steak, fish, or veggies.
Why Are Steaks So Expensive?
Can we please talk about the big elephant in the room? Seriously, the prices of “better cuts” of steak are no joke these days. I am talking about the very high prices of Ribeye, Filet Mignon, T-bone, Flat Iron Steak, Tri-Tip Steak, Kansas City Strip Steak, and NY Strip Steak. And I just want to know if we can all just wave bye to steak and continue with chicken.

- I suggest using a good steak such as Ribeye, Filet Mignon, T-bone, Flat Iron Steak, Tri-Tip Steak, Kansas City Strip Steak, and NY Strip Steak. Use any cut of steak from the tender part of beef.
- It is essential to allow steak to rest and come to room temperature before cooking in the air fryer.
- Make sure to season your steaks well; do not cook bland steak.
- Ensure that all the herbs are room temperature.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer; I typically only cook two steaks at a time in my air fryer because I want them to breathe.
- Preheat the air fryer before adding the steak.
- Use a meat thermometer, and cook to your desired doneness. I cooked these steaks precisely for 15 minutes for a well done meat. However, you can make them medium or medium-rare as you choose. Set the air fryer for 10 minutes to cook them medium-rare. On the other hand, set the air fryer for 12 minutes to cook them medium. Remember to turn/flip halfway!
- After air frying steak, top with the remaining garlic herb butter and allow it to rest before cutting/serving. This will help it release it’s juices. Also, feel free to drizzle some of the juices back on the steak.
- You will likely not use all the garlic herb butter; do not throw it away. You can you make some garlic butter potatoes or green beans with it.
- Finally, am sure you will enjoy this air fryer NY strip steak recipe, thank me later!

OK. I’m pretty old school. I always either grilled my steaks or cooked them in a cast iron skillet. I never dreamed of air frying them, but then I saw this recipe with 5 star reviews and I tried it! OMG! I can’t believe how good it turned out. I’m now a believer. These steaks were delicious. Thanks for sharing.

Do you butter BOTH sides of the steak or just one side? Also do you flip them half way through cooking?
I butter every side of the steak. I make sure to cover every side with the herb butter.
