Peaches are juicy, sweet, and nutritious. They are summer fruits, and you can always find them at every grocery store during the summer season. Annnnd, if you love peaches as I do, then come on in. Let’s dissect the peach fruit in today’s post, “Peaches 101.” The peach fruit is versatile, perfect for snacking, canning, and making other recipes.
What Are Peaches?
I want to believe everyone loves and enjoys peaches, especially during the summer. Buuuut, let’s go ahead and define/explain what a peach is for those at the back. Aside from chit-chatting about peaches (in this post), we shall also discuss their health benefits. Hahaha, let’s call this blog post “Peaches 101.”
Peaches belong to the Prunus persica family. They are juicy, soft fruits with fuzzy skin. Peaches are stone fruits, meaning they contain a large seed or “stone” in the middle. They are known for their sweet and juicy flesh, which can range in color from yellow to white. Peaches are summer fruits, and you can always find them at every grocery store during the summer season and they are often enjoyed fresh or used in various recipes. I love my peach strawberry smoothie as well as my healthy peach sweet iced tea. These two recipes are on repeat in my house throughout the summer! My peach sweet iced tea below.
Where did Peaches Originate from?
I read that peaches originated in China. The Chinese have cultivated peaches for thousands of years. The peach tree is a symbol of longevity and good luck in Chinese culture. From China, peaches spread to other parts of Asia and eventually came to Europe and the Americas through trade routes and explorations. Today, peaches grow in many countries around the world.

Types of Peaches + Health Benefits!
There are several types of peaches, really? Yes, indeed. Like many other humans on this side of the world, I am very used to yellow peaches. Then, one day, out of the blue, I saw white peaches at my local BJs. And I have to investigate; upon my investigation, I found that there are plenty of other types of peaches. In this “peaches 101” blog post, aside from sharing those fantastic health benefits of peaches, let’s also learn about the other various types. Here are the types of peaches below:
Yellow Peaches:
For the longest time, yellow peaches are the only type of peaches I have known and used. I typically make my healthy peach-strawberry smoothie using yellow peaches. Equally, I like using yellow peaches every summer whenever I make my peach tea until this year. Yellow peaches, just like the name states, have yellow skin and flesh and are famous for their sweet and tangy flavor. This variety is truly one of my favs.
White Peaches:
White peaches have pale yellow skin and flesh. They are generally sweeter and less acidic than yellow peaches. Since I discovered white peaches, they have become my favorite for eating. I find them very juicy, soft and generally more enjoyable. I have also tried using them to make my famous peach tea. Though the tea was sweet as usual, it looked paler than the peach teas made with yellow peaches.
Freestone Peaches:
“Freestone peaches” exactly mean “free stone.” In other woards, these types peaches have pits that can easily separate from the flesh, making them easy to cut. Also, it is easy to eat and enjoy and ideal for cooking and canning. You can find freestone peaches in both yellow and white peaches. I don’t know if this last part is helpful, but all Georgia peaches are freestone.
Clingstone Peaches:
In contrast to freestone peaches, the pit clings to the flesh. This type of peach may require a bit more effort, especially when you are trying to cut several of them for cooking or canning. Here’s the deal: whether the stone of a peach clings to its flesh or not, peaches still have several health benefits, so do not be discouraged.
Donut Peaches:
Also known as Saturn peaches, these flat-shaped peaches have a unique appearance and a sweet, mild flavor. “Donut” peaches are shaped like a donut and they can be white or yellow peaches. You can easily stack them up as they aren’t spherical. And just like the other types of peaches, donut peaches are packed with nutrients and vitamins with several health benefits.
Paraguayos:
This type of peach has fuzz-free skin and is often smaller and sweeter than other varieties. It is considered another type of “donut” or Saturn peach because of its shape.
Subtropical Peaches:
These peaches are adapted to warmer climates and are grown in regions with mild winters. This is another kind of peach that looks flat. Some people even refer to subtropical peaches as angel donut peaches. Below is cut yellow peaches.โฌ๏ธ

What is a #1 peach?
The #1 peach in the universe is a ripe, juicy, tasty peach (in my opinion). It should also be freestone, so it’s effortless to cut, eat, cook with or can. The number one peach is well-formed and healthy in and out! Next time you go to a grocery store to buy peaches, make sure to supervise them to ensure that they fit all the boxes enumerated above. Take your time and always select the perfect peach that you will enjoy!
What is the most juiciest peach?
Ripe peaches are generally the most juiciest. This is because they are mature, soft, and have reached the peak of their flavors. Most ripe peaches are the juiciest, tastiest, and sweetest. Additionally, I would say that white peaches are inherently the sweetest and juiciest when ripe. This is because they have less acid than yellow peaches. Below is my cut juicy white peach. This was soooo juicy and satisfying.
