How To Get Off The Cold Wagon

Cold, cold, cold, no, seriously can we please chat about how to get off the cold wagon?

Since I started working out last year after deciding during birthday in July 2017, I have intentionally worked out five days a week without missing any week. Unfortunately, that record was broken in late February 2018 when I fell under the spell of the unkindly cold.

 

Ok, wait for my cold wagon story.

It started with a harmless sneeze after a relaxed family outing on a beautiful day that appeared “warm.” Well, warm turned into wet, which in turn brought the wind and the wagon. Next thing I know, I hopped unto the cold wagon *sigh*

The on and off of the common cold had negatively affected my fitness. Initially, I felt ashamed that I wasn’t consistent anymore. Sadly, I worried about that more than I worried about getting better.

 

My tips on how to get off the cold wagon.

Here are five simple ways anyone (I mean any adult obviously) can use to reduce the unkindness of this frequent common cold. I hope these steps help you feel better in no time and above all get back on your feet.

  1. Get rest and get help. Here’s the deal: you cannot underestimate the power of rest or perhaps just slowing down. In, reality, the common cold can weaken your body. When it comes calling, get rest. If it becomes worst, get help with some of your daily activities.
  2. Give yourself time to recover. By all means, give yourself time to heal that’s one of the most effective ways to get off the cold wagon. If I had taken this tip, I would have quickly recovered from the first time I had cold this year (February 2018) I probably would have gotten better within ten days. I was more concerned about missing my daily workout than the actual process of healing and recovery. And it didn’t help me in any way instead the cold stayed a little longer and even much longer. *sucks* You must give yourself a reasonable amount of time to recover, after all when you get better you feel better, and then you can get back on your fitness exercise.
  3. Get necessary medical check. Another key point on how to get off the cold wagon is to get help medical help if necessary. Mayo Clinics encourages adults to seek medical attention for common if their temperature gets higher than 101.3 F (38.5 C) and if they have had a fever for my more than five days. I will honestly say, monitor your body you know it more than anyone else and if you need to get to your doctor before five days of cold, please do.
  4. Stay warm. There are many ways you can stay warm during this winter season. Well, you heard me right, WINTER. It's technically spring, but truthfully we are still in winter here in Williamsburg, VA. Continue to dress warmly, hot or spicy chicken noodle soup (vegetable soup or broth for vegetarians) is good for the soul. Hot teas and other drinks are also helpful.
  5. Ensure routine self-care. Do not wait until you are ill before you start practicing self-care. Build in self-care habits into your schedule and avoid overexposure to the viruses that can cause the common cold. Continue to maintain simple hygiene methods like “washing hands,” all the time.
