These banana waffles are light, fluffy, and healthier! An upgrade from my mom’s banana pancakes. [bctt tweet=”Healthy banana oat waffles are easy to make, fluffy, and freezer-friendly. Banana Oatmeal Waffle Recipe Ingredients:

Banana.

Banana is a must-have for this dish; remember, it is called banana oat waffles for a reason, hello! In other words, this recipe contains bananas. It is important to know that banana is excellent for you; it contains fiber and other antioxidants. Additionally, it has vitamins C, B6, potassium, magnesium, copper, and minimal fat.

Oats.

In other to make this dish, you will need oat flour or ground old-fashioned oats. I usually grind the oats myself; however, here’s an oat flour to check out if you prefer already made one. Oats (aka, oatmeal) contains good carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, mineral, and other essential compounds as well. Equally, oats can lower cholesterol, and it is gluten-free!

Eggs.

Everyone knows and loves eggs. Despite being labeled as “bad” because of their high cholesterol content, eggs are great for our health, and the cholesterol in eggs is the good one. However, please listen to your health provider and nutritionist for health advice! Eggs contain high-quality protein and other antioxidants. If you do not eat eggs, no problems – you can sub with “flaxseed eggs.”

Milk.

Use the type of milk that works for you. We eat dairy, so I would generally use whole milk and because I primarily make these sweet banana oat waffles for my children, hence the whole milk. I think 2% milk will work just fine as well as plant-based milk. The nutritional components of dairy milk are essential to the human body; milk has high in protein, good fat, vitamins, and other minerals.

Besides the ingredients mentions, you would need some organic pure cane sugar or organic coconut sugar, or monkfruit a no-calorie sweetener. Also, vanilla extract, baking powder, nutmeg, ground cinnamon, a pinch of salt and butter.

Dry and wet ingredients

About this Gluten-free Waffle Dough:

This dough may seem light immediately after mixing. Allow it to sit/rest for 10 minutes (or less) before using. This way, it thickens and makes the most perfect banana oat waffles! Relatively, you can make them immediately without waiting; however, I notice the waffle are better when I do wait a bit.

Gluten-free Waffle Dough made with grounds oats, overripe bananas, eggs, milk, baking powder, etc.

HOW TO MAKE BANANA OAT WAFFLES:

  • Turn on your clean waffle maker to warm up and get ingredients ready.
  • Get a large bowl and add all the dry ingredients (ground old-fashioned oats or oat flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.) Tailor the salt to suit your health need. If you are using salted butter, then be sure to use less salt.
  • Peel and cut 3 small to medium size bananas. If you are using big bananas, please use only 2.
  • Add the Bananas into the blender. Also, add all the liquid ingredients (milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter), blend at high speed for less than a minute.
  • Pour the blended wet ingredients into the bowl containing the dry ingredients. Use a wooden or silicone spatula to combine.
  • Use a cooking spoon to scoop the mixture into the waffle maker as it should be green and ready by now. Cover/lock the waffle maker and allow it the required time to cook.
  • As soon as the light on your waffle maker goes from red to green, then your sweet banana oat waffle is ready. Enjoy more fresh bananas, blueberries, strawberries (or any other fruit of choice and or syrup).

BANANA OAT WAFFLES TIPS/NOTES:

  • Make your own oat flour. Use a high-speed blender and blend some old-fashioned oats up to 3 cups. Unfortunately, if you are too busy and can’t make oat flour for these banana oat waffles, then try this oat flour.
  • Use three small-medium size bananas, and use only two if using big bananas.
  • Typically, dough may seem light immediately after mixing. Allow it to sit/rest for 10 minutes (or less) before using. This way, it thickens and makes the perfect banana oat waffles! Do not fidget, and perhaps add another type of flour.
  • Reduce the cane sugar to cater to your health need or simply substitute cane sugar with coconut sugar. Surprisingly, (well, not), you can get away without adding cane sugar)!
  • Want to reduce Sugar/Carb? Use Monkfruit, a no-calorie sweetener, instead of pure cane sugar or coconut sugar. I find this sweetener to not have an aftertaste, unlike most sweeteners.

Notes

Best to make your own oat flour (or buy pure oat flour with oat been the only ingredient).

You can substitute old-fashioned oats with minutes flour but you may need to add more, honestly, I don’t know if you will get the same result.

Substitute pure cane sugar with organic coconut sugar, alternatively use Monkfruit, a no-calorie, zero carb sweetener. I find this sweetener to not have an aftertaste, unlike most sweeteners. (Remember if you choose to use monfruit, the caloric and carb content of this recipe will reduce)!

This waffle would be a little lighter than most of the waffles you make; please be cautious while removing it from the waffle maker to avoid tearing it apart.☺️

The number of waffles you make will typically depend on the type of waffle maker you use.
I would usually make two and a half sets using a big Belgian waffle maker, which amounts to 12 waffles pieces. You would make more waffles if you use small waffle maker.
There are many varieties of waffle makers out there in the market. Not even a joke!

This recipe serves 6 adults or up to 10 children

  7. Samantha L Tarter says:

Could I use honey or Applesauce for the sweetener?

    1. I haven’t yet tried this recipe with honey or applesauce. However, if you choose to use honey or applesauce, you may also need to increase the oat with the same quantity of honey or applesauce. For instance, if you add three tablespoons of honey or applesauce, add 3 tablespoons of oats.
I hope this makes sense. Feel free to let me know how it goes.

  8. OMG! Just made these! They are sooo yummy! I ground my own oats, used coconut oil and used stevia for the sweetener. They turned out perfectly! I’m eating them right off the waffle iron. They r like waffles meets banana bread!
