If you have never made turkey wings before, you are missing a lot, and I am gladly showing you how to make the best fall-off-the-bone turkey wings today. First, I layered the pan with vegetables and then placed the seasoned turkey wings on top. It baked to perfection, simply the BEST EVER oven-baked turkey wings!
Ingredients
Ingredients For Turkey Wings:
- 14.71 pounds of Turkey wings (about 8 whole wings; became 24 after cutting into wingettes, drumettes and flats). Rem to cook whatever quantity you desire. I made a lot for Thanksgiving.
- 3 pounds of potatoes
- 1 red bell peppers
- 2 lbs. carrots
- 4 Celery stalk (optional; as needed)
- 1 large onion
- 2 Tablespoons of Olive oil
- 1 Tablesppon apple cider vinegar
Dry Seasoning Ingredients For Turkey Wings:
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 2 tablespoons Knorr
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons Slap Your Mama seasoning
- 2 teaspoons dry thyme
- 2½ tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Step One: Gather all the ingredients & Pre-heat your oven. Make sure you have everything you will need for this recipe; it makes it easier that way. Wash and clean 2-3 9×13 baking pans for baking your turkey wings. Finally, preheat your oven to 425F.
- Step Two: Combine the seasoning ingredients. Measure out all the seasoning ingredients/herbs/spices. Then add to a big bowl, mix, and set aside.
- Step Three: Prep the Vegetables. Wash, peel, and cut the potatoes, carrots, celery stalks, onions and bell pepper. Then, place them into a big bowl that can accommodate them. To season the vegetables, add two tablespoons of the seasoning ingredients (mixed in step two) and one tablespoon of olive oil. Combine very well to ensure that your vegetables mix well with the seasoning. Place your seasoned vegetables on the bottom of your clean baking pans. Set aside.
- Step Four: Prep the Turkey. First, wash and clean your turkey with water, vinegar, and lemon. I always wash my turkey so as chicken. However, if you do not wash your turkey, then ignore it. Next, cut the turkey wings into drumettes, wingettes, and flats. This way, they are easy to handle. I got about 24 pieces after cutting them. Use paper towels to pat dry your turkey meat. To season, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar on the meat. Then add ½ cup of seasoning ingredients. Remember, the amount of turkey you cook will ultimately determine how much seasoning you will need. Rub the seasonings onto your turkey using your hands and wearing a hand glove. Ensure every part of the turkey wings is properly seasoned. Finally, place the seasoned turkey wings on top of the vegetables (in the baking pan).
- Step Five: Bake Turkey Wings. First, cover the pans with foil and place them in your preheated oven. Bake for 2½ hours. Check after an hour and a half to see how it is doing. The vegetables should keep the turkey wings moist, but if you thinkyour pan is drying up and needs moisture, add ¼ – ½ cup chicken broth. After 2 hours of baking, check the meat for tenderness, and if it is tender to your liking, you can now turn on the broil. Broil for 15-20, keep your eyes on it. Remember, broiling could quickly burn stuff. However, broiling gives it that browning golden color. This turkey was sooooo impressive and turned out excellently well. We served it with mashed potatoes. Please watch the video for any detail I may have missed.
Notes
Season your turkey wings and vegetables very well!
If you are cooking a lot of turkey wings like I did (15 lbs.), please cook at a higher temperature. I cooked mine at 425F. This helps more heat to generate.
If you do not wish to use vegetables, I suggest using chicken broth.
Use the seasonings you already love and enjoy. You can’t find “Slap Your Mama,” any Cajun seasoning will work.
Not sure about Knorr? Use Maggi. Though optional, this enhances flavor.
