Description
Basic pizza dough requires some flour, yeast, and lukewarm water. I have a few other ingredients in there, but I’m willing to bet you already have them in your kitchen. Instead of buying ready-made pizza dough with preservatives and additives, you can make it fresh, and it will taste even better.
Do you love pizza but worry it’s too hard to make from scratch? I will show you how simple it is with my easy homemade pizza dough. This is the simplest and quickest homemade pizza dough recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 cups of flour (plus more if its sticky, also when kneading or rolling out the dough)
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3/4 cup of lukewarm water
Instructions
- Proof your yeast. It all starts with adding the yeast, honey, lukewarm water, and olive oil into a bowl. Give it a stir to combine it and let it sit to proof.
- Mix dry ingredients. While the other ingredients proof, combine your flour and salt in another bowl.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients. Next, you’ll add the wet yeast mixture to your bowl of flour and salt. Use a wooden spoon or even mix by hand, making sure everything forms together into a ball. It shouldn’t be sticky and should pull away from the bowl. You can add a little flour to fight the stickiness until you get the right texture.
- Knead. Once combined, you should knead the dough about 10-12 times. I additionally like to split it in two to have a portion of pizza dough to use another time. You don’t have to split it up, but doing so makes it easier to either make 2 pizzas or save the dough for another pizza night.
- Let it rise. Grease a bowl with olive oil and then put your pizza dough in it, covering tightly with plastic wrap or foil. Leave it to sit for an hour or so until it doubles in size.
- Roll it out. When you’re ready to make your pizza, deflate the dough with your hands and put it on a floured board. Use a rolling pin to roll it out, and then you can start making your pizza. I typically flatten out my dough, as shown below for a thin crust pizza recipe. You may need to use the two dough balls if you wish to make thick crust/deep dish pizza! Also, you don’t need to flatten it.
Notes
This recipe will make 2 medium-sized “thin crust” pizzas, which is precisely why I like dividing the dough. If you prefer thick crust or deep dish pizza then it will make only one pizza. And you do not have to flatten it!
When combining the ingredients to make your dough ball, add flour a little at a time if it’s still sticky.
Be patient and let the dough rise. I recommend making it ahead of time so that when you’re ready to make your pizza, you can just get right to it.
You have almost 1 cup of liquid when you combine the water, honey, olive oil, and yeast.
